Most homeowners call a contractor on Monday expecting the floor to be done by the weekend. Sometimes that’s realistic. Often it isn’t — and the gap between expectation and reality creates frustration that’s completely avoidable with a clear picture of what the process actually looks like.
Here’s a realistic timeline for a residential garage epoxy project, from first contact to a floor you can drive on.
Phase 1: Getting Quotes (1–2 Weeks)
What happens: You contact contractors, schedule site visits, receive written proposals, compare, and make a decision.
Realistic timeframe: 7–14 days if you’re organized and responsive.
The most common slowdown here is waiting for contractors to call back. Quality epoxy contractors are often booked several weeks out — their lead time for an in-person estimate can be 3–7 days by itself. Contact five or six contractors if you want to end up with three actual quotes.
Once you’ve received proposals, factor in time to read them carefully, ask follow-up questions, check references, and verify insurance. Don’t rush this phase. A week of research upfront prevents months of problems later.

Then there’s cleaning the grinding dust (which is substantial), crack repair curing time, and a final degreasing and tack coat.
